founder of the watts tower

moved to the hi-desert

made art from junk

on a 2 acre plot of land

he died in 2004

the art flakes away

in the baking dust.

I hear a pair of owls

 outside my trailer window

hooting at one another

in the dark.

the darkness

like boulders

heavy in solitude.

I feel the baby kicking

inside my swollen belly.

I place my hand

and smile.
